Guy Fawkes Day

Steinn reminds us that today is Guy Fawkes Day, November 5.

Reminds me of the movie V for Vendetta which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Of course, no relation to current events or the timing of Saddam's verdict.

A Head of State cannot be guilty of any internal crime of national policy committed within the framework of law and custom then extant. If outsiders do not like it they are invited not to emigrate. Saddam Hussein properly should be declared "Not Guilty" and released without prejudice. Let the street decide.

The role of the judiciary, as exemplified by American traffic courts, is confiscation of value. If we enforced homosexual pedophila laws, how much of Congress or the Church of Rome would remain at large?

Ok, I'll bite. By this argument, Uncle Al, should Fat Hermann and his Nazi pals been freed, with a mob of Berliners to decide whether they'd actually done anything worthy of punishment? (Angry, my apologies for effectively Godwin-ing your blog.)

By the way, my previous comment in no way is meant to defend our Iraq policy or how the Iraqi government has handled the trial of Saddam Hussein.

Nuremberg was inevitable. Who judged was entirely arbitrary. Truman and Churchill were legally indistinguishable from Hitler. Der Fuerher didn't nuke Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Total civilan deaths over 35 years of Husseins "reign of terror" are dwarfed by Bush the Lesser's contemporary slaughter. Civil rights under Hussein were quantitatively superor to civil rights under Bush - Iraq or America. If Hussein hangs then Bush the Lesser should be dangling with him, with lead weights tied to his feet.
