Presenting the "other" side of academic physics, where people backstab and give lousy talks. Where people are sometimes lazy or incompetent, and the best don't get the credit or the job. From the perspective of someone lucky enough to have landed a tenure-track professorship.

School administration and their bureaucracy!
I've been trying to buy some equipment for a month now and the vendor still doesn't have the purchase order. Not even with the school's money, but my own grant money. At every step, it needs someone else's signature, or it gets bounced back for some silly reason. Is it this bad at all schools?
